Although Van CCTV systems are becoming ever more popular we would be tempted, especially in today’s environment, to say that they are becoming ever more essential!  Why may you ask? Well CCTV systems offer a number of benefits to both the driver and the operator. For example they can be used to:-

  • Maximise the driver’s awareness of their surroundings.
  • Provide assistance to the driver whilst reversing & manoeuvring in confined spaces.
  • Prevent road accidents by minimising the number of blind spots.
  • Provide valuable evidence in the event of an accident to avoid unscrupulous liability claims.
  • Reduce the risk of theft from the vehicle and provide assistance and support where any kind of insurance may be involved.

In short they provide the driver with a great deal of comfort whilst at work and when away from their van.

Van protection has never been more relevant with van thefts sadly on the rise. But of course, its not just the van that is at risk, for just as often it may well be the contents that are the focus of unwarranted attention, especially with there being a ready market for tools and other site equipment …without their origin being queried!

Protecting your business with a van CCTV system therefore makes a lot of sense and should be viewed as an investment rather than a cost.  For a sole trader the loss of a van or equipment could mean the loss of ones business or at least a serious interruption to income. So quite serious.

In a recent survey carried out by Icompario two thirds of UK van drivers had previously been a victim of van related crime. Somewhat worrying for our neighbours is the fact that Leicestershire is a top hotspot for such crimes!

Other surveys from Police sources indicate that a van is broken into every 23 minutes so just be aware this could happen to you if it has not already happened.

Van CCTV options from AVS

At Advanced Vehicle Systems we stock and install a wide range of CCTV equipment as part of systems packages that can be bespoke designed to satisfy individual circumstances.

LDVS (London Direct Vision Standard)

Van safety is not always about theft. If for example you are working in London you need to consider the implications of the London Direct Vision Standard. If your van doesn’t comply you won’t be able to deliver to some sites and not at all in Greater London. As these standards are being considered for other towns and cities too it is becoming an issue to be aware of.

Don’t by accidental omission miss out on potential contracts and restrictions to your trade.
